50 Million Years
Artist: Imogen Jade – Little Orange
The sky, the ocean and its creatures inspired my imaginative art process for this project.
I want people to see that whales are special. They have been here for a long time. We need to protect them by looking after our environment. I want people to know whales are ancient and wise.
We can easily lose these gentle and beautiful giants if we don’t look after the planet. It’s not too late!

Imogen Jade – Little Orange
“My name is Imogen Jade. I love the water and nature. My paintings are populated with animals, cocktails, unicorns, butterflies and the inside of cabinets. Glitz, pop culture and 90s sitcoms are everything to me! In 2018, I partnered with Shopfront Theatre to transform the café at Lurnea High School with a large mural and helped C-A-C celebrate their 30th anniversary with Creamy Bar, a cocktail bar filled with custom recipes. In 2019, Creamy Bar also featured at Sydney Contemporary and again at the 2020 opening night of Justene William’s She Conjured the Clouds. Recently, I collaborated with artist Jessica Pound on amenity screens at Campbelltown’s Eagle Farm Park and was commissioned to create sidewalk light designs as part of Campbelltown City Council’s On Q Queen Street Activation. I work out of Little Orange Studio, a Campbelltown Arts Centre working studio for Western Sydney artists who identify as a person with disability, d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing and/or Disabled Creatives. The studio has been running since 2014 and fosters high quality artistic practice through the provision of materials, mentorships, business training and access to industry professionals.”

Imogen Jade reminds us that “Everything is connected” – and Darling Quarter brings that idea to life. Near here in 1815 the first steam engine outside Europe operated a sawmill, brewery and other factories, bringing about Darling Harbour’s transformation as Australia’s Industrial heartland. Today it is a modern commercial, retail and recreational district in Sydney’s New Waterfront Precinct, it offers renowned restaurants and cafes, adjoining one of Australia’s best children’s playgrounds, the acclaimed Monkey Baa Theatre Company and city greenspace. Darling Quarter is another magical place where unexpected things meet.
